2016 Featured Artist
Sculptor, Mark Dziewior
A photo of Mark Dziewior
Mark Dziewior
Having been raised in central Wisconsin among the woods and bluffs, I was afforded ample opportunity to explore, observe and interact with wildlife nurturing what has become a lifelong fascination with, and connection to animals.

Some of my favorite childhood memories involved animals of one kind or another. The fawn I bottlefed at a wildlife rescue, the rabbits I raised and even the cougar cub I was allowed to hold purring against my chest were spiritual encounters that touched and inspired me.

Even the books I read as a young boy were those told by and about animals — stories like Peter Rabbit, The Wind in the Willow, and many Thornton Burgess’Mother Westwind books.

If you look closely at my work, there is a small element of the human emotion/expression in each piece. Whether it’s capturing the motion of a running wolf or the almost human-like expression of a lazy rabbit waking from a nap, my work has evolved to a whole new level through sculpture.

High School Clay Coalition
In keeping with our mission to promote the arts in Wisconsin, particularly among young people, WAAC is again providing an opportunity for the High School Clay Coalition to display and sell their work.  The coalition is a group of Madison art students, under the direction of several art teachers, who are eager to learn about the art fair process and etiquette, and how to market their work.  Their exhibit may be found just off the walkway to Monona Terrace.

In the Beginning Changes do happen to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in front of the City-County Building when the Art Fair Off the Square sets up, there and on the Monona Terrace Esplanade. Crowd to Capitol
